Common Footwork

When it comes to boxing, the key is not so much how you are able to swing your arms as much as your ability to use footwork to get you where you want to be as well as being able to deliver a punch with your full bodyweight behind the fist.

In a nutshell, here are some basic footwork patterns that are most commonly used:

Push Step - you propell yourself forward by pushing off your rear foot

Step and slide - you step forward with the lead foot and slide the rear foot behind it

slide and step - you skide the rear foot towards the lead foot and then step forward with the lead.
