The Use of the Forearms
The forearms are often underutilized when it comes to boxing. This is unfortunate because the forearms can be integrated into a boxing game in a number of ways. Probably the most common usage of the forearms centers on their effectiveness in the clinch. One such way the forearms are employed in the clinch is using it as a buffer. If an opponent reaches around your neck and clinches, you can place your forearm on the upper body of the opponent. This can create a bridge which can impede the opponents ability to manipulate your upper body. Also, the forearm can create a buffer than allows you to throw punches without having them jammed by your opponents clinching techniques.
No, the forearm will not completely nullify the effectiveness of an opponent's clinch. However, it can impede the effectiveness making his clinch decidedly less effective than he initially assumed possible. And, as previously mentioned, it provides an effective buffer to deliver offensive actions. I guess that sound like a plan....
