Movement is not necessarily a good thing (sometimes)

Boxing has repeatedly been referred to as the art of being able to hit while moving. That is true. However, it is more accurate when referring to the jab which is a punch you can utilize while moving in any direction. The remaining punchs need to be delivered while stationary. The hook, however, can be delivered moving in the instance where you zone in the delivery direction of the punch. (Going in the opposite direction will be disastrous unless it is to deliver a hooking ear slap) The cross, overhand and uppercuts need to be delivered while weight is stationary. The reason for this is that if weight shifts when trying to deliver these punches, the loss of power will be significant. In fact, it will render the punches ineffective to the degree of laughable arm strength. (Think of a really bad toughman competition style punching and you get the idea)

Bottom line: move, plant weight and then deliver your power blows. Anything else (with the hook/jab exceptions)will be ineffectual and needs to be avoided.
