Savate Tips

When it comes to throwing a side kick in savate, on th beginner level, you can break down a technique that involves the coordination of a number of techniques into a series of several steps. However, this is a learning tool and will not apply well to sparring or competition because it is just flat out too slow. However, if you tighten up your game and perform the series of steps simultaneously, then you have a functional, workable technique.

For example, when throwing a rear leg side kick (chasse) a beginner method of training would involve stepping out with the rear leg to cut an angle and then raising the sidekick in order to deliver it.

Here's a better way: you step out and swing the rear leg into its chamber at the same time. As the knee raises to its highest point you immediately have to hop/drift forward so as to deliver the kick.

Doesn't that sound much better?
