Specialization

In order to become good at something, a person needs to dedicate a great deal of time to it. If one wishes to get good at boxing or kickboxing, it is highly advised to invest a decent amount of time learning the art. However, there is one thing to keep in mind here is that boxing or kickboxing encompass a huge numer of subsets such as offense, defense, footwork, etc, all of which require specialization. Furthermore, each subset has its own subset. Offense, for example, can be broken down into long range fighting, infighting, attack by draw, etc

So how does one specialize? By simply taking everything one step at a time. Pick a small subset (say, a push shuffle jab) and invest several weeks into making that particular jab a highly developed one. While this may not be a psychologically rewarding as learning a ton of different focus mitt drills, it is a much better path towards becoming a better boxer or kickboxer.
