Keeping the elbow in when punching

One of the main problems with delivering a punch is th fact that oftentimes people will deliver a punch that is solely based on arm strength. That is to say, there is no body weight behind the actual punch. This is, of course, a really weak punch that lacks knockout power. There are a number of factors that can contribute to arm strength punching, but perhaps the most common is the unfortunate tendency to throw punches with the elbow away from the body. That is to say, the elbows 'flare' out like chicken wings and do not rest tight to the rib cage. (BTW - Flaring leaves your torso open to a multitude of body shots as well) Probably the best way to eliminate this problem would involve pulling your elbows in close to your bodt when you get in your fighting stance and making a conscious effort not to let the elbows drift. Also, stay conscious of delivering power by way of loading and torking your body as opposed to wildly swinging. Wild swings, by their nature, involve drawing the elbow really far away from the body. Hope that helps.
