Side Note on Planting With The Cross

I just wanted to make a brief clarification on planting with the cross. Please do not confuse the cross with the overhand. With the rear overhand, the elbow raises upwards over the fist. The footwork motion with the overhand is somewhat different than the footwork of the cross. Often, if you are somewhat out of range, you will probably want to "zone" with the overhand by stepping out on an angle with the lead foot. This zoning allows you to clear over the opponent's guard. Now, this is not a 100% effective technique to be sure. It can have a tendency to 'devolve' into an arm strength punch if not done right or the opponent may, perhaps, move out of the way, etc. The bottom line here is not to consider the cross and the overhand the same punch! More to come.
