Sidestepping to Kick
Let us use the kick as a counter to the following technique: a simple jab. The kick, in particular, will be the fouette from savate.
It is a simple drill. Your parnet jabs and you fouette. Uh oh. something is not working out the way you expected and th kick becomes super jammed. What went wrong?
Usually, the problem is that the person did not sidestep horizontally. Instead, they came forward on a diagonal. This is a no no because it takes the kicker out of kicking range and into hand range. This is too jammed for a fouette and leaves the kicker open to a punch. Scratch that. They are open to a knockout blow from the cross. Needless to say, it is critical to sidestep. If not, the kick wont intercept the jab. It will, however, end up making things worse. Again, kick HORIZONTAL
