Play The Game - Not A Fan of the Sport

Is it odd to be an avid member of a sport while not being a fan of the sport. The short answer to this is YES. I believe that former MLB player Mookie Wilson once mentioned he nevr watched baseball, but only played the game. (At least I think it was Mookie Wilson...I am going back by memory like by 15 years...)

Now, this is a boxing blog and not a baseball blog so let's examine this from a boxing stand point. Is it "logical" (for lack of a better word) to become an avid practioner of the sport of boxing while not a fan of the game. Of course. The reason is that most practioners are not introduced to their hobby by watching it on TV, but rather they are introduced to the game through their local gym.

In other words, people will be looking for a way to lose weight or to take part in an active hobby and in their search they come across boxing or kickboxing. They like what they see and then they give it a try. From this, they become hooked on the sport. However, they are not a spectator of the competition of boxing as they have not discovered it one television. Now, it would be wise to watch boxing matches in order to improve one's game, but there are those people who are not all that interested in improvement. It is just a time away from the mundane issues of the daily life.

Is it "bad" to participate in the sport while not watching it? No, it isn't bad, but it does show a decided lack of seriousness. What you ultimately do is up to you. Hopefully, you will do the proper thing.
