A Note On The Hook

I just wanted to add a short note on the traditional hook. Or, more specifically, the body hook. The problem I noticed with a lot of beginners. Well, ALL beginners because this is a mustake we all make when we are first learning how to box....anyways....let's get back to the body hook.

The body hook is not a hybrid head hook/body hook. They are two distinct punches. In other words, when a person wants to deliver a hook to the body, the puncher must DROP his body and weight down and not stay upright and merely throw the hook at the body.

This is a bad idea for three reasons:

1.) The punch will be mere arm strength and will not do any real damage whatsoever.
2.) The body will be misalligned and out of positive for a follow up
3.) 1+2 really don't matter because it is pretty much a guarantee that you will end up being knockd out if you throw a lame punch like that.

Again, when you through a hook to the body, you need to drop your weight down and get inside for a short range punch. Throwing a body hook from an upright position is about as big of a no no as you can get.
