You, My Friend, Are Responsible For Your Own Training Success

This is a brief follow up to some of my lengthier entries on avoiding negative instruction. Ultimately, you have to accept some of the blame, yourself, when you are paying for poor instructorship. There is a starting point for this and it begins with your own ability to educate yourself towards what does or doesn't constitute the proper way to train. In other words, don't be a lemming and let someone guide you into a weak training program.

First, you are NOT a fair weather trainer because if you were, you wouldn't be skimming the net and looking for further educational material. Let the people who consider "cardio boxing" or "fitness kickboxing" to be real boxing or kickboxing remain the lazy ones. Don't fall in with them. Look, I am not trying to be down on these people because they have the right to train they way they want to and, quite honestly, they provide the financial infrastsructure that allows a place for part-time serious students and older clientle to train. (Sorry, but pro-am boxing gyms are really not the place for the hobbyist no matter how serious the hobbyist is)However, you also have a right to train the way you want to as well. If you are being "dragged" down to the level of cardio-boxing workouts as opposed to a legitimate sportive pursuit of the science, then you need to either take private lessons that cater to your needs or you need to make a switch. You have a time and money commitment in this venture as well, remember?
