The Hammer Fist
Previously, we mentioned the underutilized backfist strike. Well, it needs to be underutilized in boxing since it is an illegal technique. However, many self-defense schools teach boxing but neglect to integrate these other bareknuckle boxing strikes into their toolbox. This is unfortunate because the lead backhand hammer fist is an out and out knockout strike when done properly. And this should come as no surprise...look at the side of your hand. It is a pretty hard surface! No, that does not mean it is invulnerable but it is much less prone to damage than the knuckles. And, again, the backhand hammer fist can deliver serious knockout power when delivered correctly.(Note: I use the term "backhand" hammer fist because there are other types of hammer fists we will discuss at a later date)
