More on triangles

Often, a skilled boxer will base his footwork off of moving in a triangular pattern and strike at angles. The reason for this is obvious: coming straight into an opponent is not wise because it places the boxer directly in the firing line of his opponent. This will necessitate excessive evasive head movement to avoid incoming blows. Also, it will require parrying and blocking which, while effective, is not an efficient use of one's hands. After all, if the hand is being used for defense, then it is not being used for offense.

Angulated or triangulated footwork will often place the person safely away from a linear (head on) fighter and provide excellent opportunity to strike from an angulated position. This is, of course, a much preferable form of attack and one that should be properly exploited.
