So How Much Time Needs to Be Spent on Footwork?
Aha. My previous entry brings about the important question as to how much time needs to be spent on footwork. Well, this question is a somewhat flawed question. How so, you ask? Because it assumes that boxing (as defined by hitting) is separate from footwork, an attribute that can possibly be done without. This is, of course, WRONG.
Foorwork in boxing exists in perptuity. That is, whenever you train, you need to work your footwork with every drill and every facet of training. When it comes to boxing, you must MOVE MOVE MOVE all the time. Your rear heel must be raised and you must be poised to move forwards, backwards, sideways, circling etc.
Yes, it is important to isolate footwork and move around in front of a mirror wto check form, but to limit it to merely working footwork in a limited manner will undermine training and improvement. So, ALWAYS work your footwork. 100% of the time, all the time!
