Wide Hook
Yes, you have all read about it time and time again: the tight hook. As Bruce Lee once said, the hook should be a short, snappy punch delivered with a great deal of power. This is true, however, it is not 100% accurate because there are more than one way to deliver a hook. Case in point, the Wide Hook.
Now, the Wide Hook does not refer to a large, uncontrolled and looping hook. What it refers to is a hook thrown from a slightly further distance than close range. It can be achieved by opening up your rear shoulder while also opening up the arm at the hinge of the elbow.
This hook can deliver a great deal of power and it also has better 'transfer' to other arts such as Muay Thai, MMA, etc.
Keep in mind, in boxing, you only have five punches to deal with. In Thai Boxing and MMA, there is significantly more offense to deal with. As such, getting to close with a hook could yield disastrous results. Using a wider hook will provide quite a bit more safety
