Learning by watching

If a person wants to become good at boxing, then they need to invest alot of time on the exercise floor practicing. They also need to spend quite a bit of time sitting in front of the TV watching tapes of boxers and kickboxers plying their trade in the center of the ring. There is, of course, one caveat here....the way people perform in the ring is much different than the way a beginner should perform.

Why is this? Because when a person has an advanced level of skills they can "break rules" that a beginner must adhere to. For example, beginners should not try to punch while moving. That is just too much to coordinate and they will end up getting hit in the transition. Someone who is seasoned is able to hit while moving because they can still protect themselves and can shift to a defensive posture in mid stream...or even cut off an opponents offense with offense of their own. In other words, the game is much different on the advanced level than the intermediate level and the beginner level.
