Notes on Savate Leg Positioning
When a savate practitioner moves his leg to deliver a Foutte or Chasse, most assume that it is the kicking leg that rotates in order to get into the proper position to deliver the kick. Believe it or not, it is the support leg that moves. What happens is the hip area of the support leg rotates inward and this shifts the body causing the lead leg to move at an angle acceptable to deliver the kick.
When using a Foutte (round kick) bring the knee of the kicking leg up and as far away from the body. With a Chasse (sidekick)the knee comes straight up.
One a side note about the sidekick, when delivering the kick, the knee must rise straight up and high as possible and this momentum should be used to drive the body (using the support leg in a hopping version as the knee hits its highest height - which makes the body almost weightless for a second)
Happy kicking people
