Randomness is Ill Advised when Sparring
I thought I would add another brief note on sparring tips.
If there was anything that was not exactly well advised when sparrring it would be randomnly throwing punches (and kicks if kickboxing) and hoping to land. This is not exactly the hallmark of a well trained fighter. In fact, anyone could do that with or without formal training so why would you wish to follow the habits of someone who wasn't trained?
Instead, there should be some logic employed when sparring. On a baseline level, here is the most logical course of action to follow:
In Boxing, the jab is used to set up other punches and for that matter any punch can be used to set up another punch. In kickboxing, try to use punches to set up kicks or kicks to set up punches. Yes, this is a realtively simply course of action to follow, but it works
