Where are your hands?
If there was one thing that was absolutely critical when it comes to sparring, the need NOT TO DROP YOUR HANDS is probably the most critical next to head movement and footwork. Of course, this brings about the question as to why people drop their hands? The reason is a "flawed logic" approach to generating power. Power in a punch comes from hip movement and loading the body to shift weight so as to deliver weight behind a punch. The reason people drop their hands is so they can generate power in the punch. This is supremely flawed logic because the power that is generated is never going to be more than arm strength. Also, the HUGE openings that dropping the hands leave will eventually eliminate the ability to hit because once your head is exposed by dropping your hands, your opponent with start nailing you in the head. So, whatever you do, DON'T DROP YOUR HANDS!
