Escaping on the Low Cross
The low cross to the body is a very important punch to master, but there is an aspect to it most people do not realize – there needs to be a safe way of doing it. In other words, you should throw a low cross to the body and then get hit when you get out of there. The easiest way to do this is to escape quickly and efficiently. Ok, how does on do that? Well, an adjustment in body alignment on the way out is probably the best way to go out safely. Remember, you cannot punch squared as your shoulder/hips must lead the punch. However, when it comes time to exit, people will often exit with their shoulder and hips in the leading position. This is a no no as it is slow and cumbersome. Instead, readjust your hips and shoulders before you exit.
