Faking and Feinting - Some basic Moves

Feints and fakes are not taught as often as they should be so I thought I would add a little bit about some basic drills to develop some basic skills in this area.

There are three drills that can be performed and this is one of types of the focus mitt drills that I like. There are a number variants that can be employed, but I am going to stick with the jab as the way to set it up.

Here are a bunch of drills:

When you jab, you jab at the focus mitt. Th holder's other hand will try to parry the jab so that it doesn't land. (Yes, his goal is to keep your jab from landing)

The dfirst drill is a jab/hook to the head. You will do two things: throw the jab with the intention of hitting and avoiding the parry. Or, to fake and use the over commitment (or even the minor committment of the jab) to have free range to set up the hook. When you fake the jab extend enough of a 'stem' so as to acquire the committment of the parry.

Note: when you want the jab to land you need not to be too heavy on the jab and also use body and head movement to hide the launching of the jab.

Also, you CANNOT let the parrying focus touch your jab. If it does it will disrupt the load to the hook (which must be a minor load)or else he willcover the hook.

Other variants are lower jabs to the body to a hook or a low bab to the body followed by a high overhand or cross.
