A Fact about Boxing

There is a certain underlying fact about boxing that many people miss and it is the reason why many practitioners do not become proficient at boxing. (Remember, I am talking about hobbyists here and not people who are looking to compete in the ring either as a professional or an amateur) The basic fact of boxing is that you only have 5 offensive punches: jab, cross, hook, overhand, uppercut. (Yes, some of you may say "shovel hook" which is ½ way between a hook and an uppercut but it is really an angled uppercut) When you are limited to five offensive maneuvers you really, really need to have a lot of skill at delivering them as well as an advanced game or strategy in order to be successful. This means you need to put a lot of hours in over and extended period of time. This also means a lot of time sparring with your training partners. Without putting a ton of time into the game you simply aren't going to develop the necessary skills required to be a proficient at the game.
