Depression Era Bare Knuckle Boxing
Does anyone remember the classic Charles Bronson film HARD TIMES? This was a classic film about a bare knuckled boxer fighting his way through the depression era. The plot of this film was not pulled out of thin air as this was a common way of earning money during the 1930's. The film stimulated some interest on my part to explore the history of this historical precursor to the current fad of interest in bare knuckle boxing. Of course, this was an activity that was hardly glamorous. The fighters who competed in this type of fighting not elevated as stars as professional boxers or even professional wrestlers for that matter. Depression era bare knuckle boxing is a lost piece of boxing history. Look for a few historical articles on it in coming weeks.
