Off Centerline Stance

Here is a quick tip that is pretty important if you want to make things difficult for someone trying to hit you: keep your head off centerline. That is, when you are in a boxing stance, your head should not be directly in front of your opponent’s head. Why should you not do this? Well, look at your opponent’s head. If it is directly lined up with yours, does it not look like a sitting duck target? If so, that’s because it is….and so is your head. This is why it is better to move slightly off centerline so that you head is placed somewhat in front of your opponent’s shoulder.

This means he will have to angle to get a directly line at your head. Also, it makes it much easier for you to slip or defend when oncoming punches are fired your way. Remember, you want to make things as difficult as possible for your opponent. Aligning your head in a position where he will have difficulty hitting definitely works wonders in this regard.
